Along the meandering curves of the river Saale lays a region so attractive that you will find it difficult to leave. The river runs along a long sweeping curve through the picturesque foothills of the Thuringian Slate Mountains and Thuringian Forest from the Saale waterfalls to the Hohenwarte Reservoir continuing its winding path through the forests, timber framed buildings of the villages, mountains and old towns. After the rapid flowing mountain streams and trubutaries and once past the city Rudolstadt the river slows down and the valley in which it flows becomes broader.
